ERAAL Project Holds District
Close-Out Meetings to Celebrate Milestones in Climate-Smart Agriculture
Uganda — A series of
district-level close-out meetings are underway across Uganda as the Enhancing
Resilience and Adaptive Agricultural Livelihoods (ERAAL) project winds down its
activities after years of impactful work in promoting Climate Smart Agriculture
(CSA).
The close-out meetings, scheduled
from July 22 until early August, are being held at the district
headquarters in all the districts where ERAAL has been actively implemented.
The events have brought together farmers, district leaders, researchers,
extension workers, and private sector actors to reflect on the project’s
achievements and chart a path forward for sustaining its results.
Throughout the project period,
ERAAL introduced several key interventions, including the promotion of
drought-tolerant crops, agroforestry, climate-informed decision tools, and
improved soil and water conservation techniques. The project also worked
closely with community groups to improve post-harvest handling and marketing.
At the district close-out events,
farmers showcase their success stories and innovations, while experts engage in
dialogues on how to sustain the gains beyond the project’s lifespan.
Exhibitions featuring agricultural products, climate advisory tools, and
youth-led enterprises are also part of the program.
District leaders attending the
events have lauded ERAAL for its contribution to improving household incomes
and food security, noting that the project came at a time when many farming
communities were grappling with climate shocks such as prolonged droughts and
erratic rainfall.
As the meetings continue, ERAAL’s
implementing partners are also distributing learning materials, manuals, and digital
content to help farmers and extension workers sustain the practices introduced
under the project.
The ERAAL project, funded by the
United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has been a
collaborative effort involving researchers, district extension systems,
community organizations, and the private sector.
The district close-out meetings
will culminate in a national learning and sharing event in early August, where
key stakeholders will consolidate lessons and explore opportunities for scaling
up successful interventions.
